On May 17 and 18, Susanna Mälkki leads the London Symphony Orchestra in two stellar concerts, first at Brighton Dome and then at London’s famous Barbican Centre.
The vibrant program opens with Julia Perry’s bold and rarely heard A Short Piece for Large Orchestra, followed by Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto featuring soloist Leila Josefowicz, a frequent collaborator of Malkki’s known for her intensity and technical brilliance. The performances conclude with Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, a tour de force of color, contrast, and ensemble virtuosity.
