On January 15 & 16 at the Helsinki Music Centre, Susanna Mälkki leads the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in a gripping program of works that showcase the dark side of the human mind. Susanna first leads the ensemble in Berlioz’s dark King Lear Overture, a work that exemplifies the composer’s affinity for Shakespeare, and whose music recites the thoughts of the mad old king.

Concluding the program is a concert-version of Bartók’s gripping psychological thriller Bluebeard’s Castle. The rarely heard one-act opera about a woman discovering her new husband’s murderous past will feature Szilvia Vörös as Judith and Mika Kares as Bluebeard.
