Susanna Mälkki will make her debut on the podium of the Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia this month, leading the ensemble in three concerts on January 30, 31, and February 1. The program begins with Finnish composer Lotta Wennäkoski Flounce, a brilliant orchestral composition with trumpets and percussion as the driving force, which Mälkki has conducted multiple times before, including with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra to great acclaim.

Hailed as “The latest phenomenon of the Russian piano school” (Corriere della Sera), Alexander Malofeev, will also make his Santa Cecilia debut playing Tchaikovsky’s dazzling Piano Concerto No. 1. Concluding the program is Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra — a tour de force in which every section of the orchestra shines in the spotlight, ending in a fugal whirlwind for all forces.
