Susanna Mälkki begins the new year conducting the Münchner Philharmoniker for three performances at the Philharmonie im Gasteig. The program features the German premiere of Dieter Ammann’s new Piano Concerto “Gran Partita,” both written for and played by the Swiss master Andreas Haefliger.
Mälkki led the American premiere of the work in October 2019 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The Boston Globe praised Mälkki’s performance, saying: “Ammann’s writing here for the orchestra is hardly a walk in the park, yet Mälkki rendered the dense and thorny textures…”
The concerts will take place on January 9, 10 & 12. Beginning the program is Wagner’s magnificent Lohengrin Prelude to Act I, and concluding is Strauss’ iconic tone poem, Also sprach Zarathustra.
