Susanna Mälkki conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra in an American-themed program celebrating American music’s energy, inventiveness, and diversity. Entitled “Made in America,” the program will feature concert streams, chamber music, and a pub quiz, all taking place online from Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 30.

On Saturday, January 29 at 8pm CET, Mälkki conducts Charles Ives’s Symphony No. 2, a work brimming with familiar and lesser-known melodies, and Julia Perry’ A Short Piece for Orchestra, which incorporates the folk music of her youth, showcasing a wholly original voice in American music. A tireless champion of contemporary music, renowned violinist Leila Josefowicz interprets John Adams’ Violin Concerto, a revolutionary piece for the instrument whose exceptional melodic richness complements a marvelously original rhythmic frame.

This event will be streamed on Saturday, January 29 at 8pm CET via RCO, AVROTROS radio, and Medici.tv.
