On January 6, Susanna Mälkki will make her greatly anticipated Carnegie Hall debut conducting the New York Philharmonic alongside special guest and star saxophonist, Branford Marsalis.

The program will begin with Adolphus Hailstork’s An American Port of Call, which was inspired by the composer’s experience living in Norfolk, Virginia. Joined by Mr. Marsalis, the orchestra will then move on to John Adams’ jazzy and incredibly complex Saxophone Concerto. Concluding the program is Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major, which features the famous “swan hymn”.

Part of the Carnegie Hall Live on WQXR series, the concert will be broadcasted live on New York’s WQXR-FM at 8 pm ET and will also be available to stream on-demand.
