This week, Susanna Mälkki, Principal Guest Conductor of the LA Phil, hosts the orchestra’s At Home with Susanna Mälkki, broadcasting from her home as she shares her favorite music and reflections on the unifying spirit of music with KUSC host Brian Lauritzen.
The LA Phil’s latest installment At Home With… evolved in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the temporary closures of cultural venues across the world and continues weekly with different notable artists as they bring the healing power of music to California and beyond. The special remote series began with Gustavo Dudamel and has since featured Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Adams, Yuja Wang, Thomas Wilkins, Ray Chen, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
Each episode presents the guest’s curated musical selections along with their reflections on the music and their experience of our current environment. Interviewed by KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen, the artists welcome listeners into this experience to bring people together and provide comfort and inspiration through music in these uncertain times.
