Susanna Mälkki returns to Munich’s Herkulessal to conduct the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, part of the ensemble’s musica viva series. One of the world’s most famous events for future-oriented and contemporary music, the concert will take place on July 5. Clarinetist Jörg Widmann is the featured soloist in the world premiere of Miroslav Srnka’s Speed of Truth, for solo clarinet, choir and orchestra, as well as Pierre Boulez’ Dialogue de l’ombre double for clarinet and live electronics.

In Speed of Truth, Miroslav Srnka says that he wanted to research what truth can mean in digital space: “It is about trust between musicians amongst themselves, and between the podium and auditorium there is also a kind of trust. The entire history of text settings is based on such a “contract”. To relativize this is my premise for this work.” (Alkor-Edition) Pierre Boulez’ Dialogue de l’ombre double for clarinet and live electronics is a fascinating dialogue between the solo clarinet and its electronic counterpart, generated live during the performance. Enno Poppe’s Fett, which Ms. Mälkki led the world premiere of earlier this year with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, will complete the program, marking the German premiere.

The performance on July 5 will be broadcasted on the radio by BR-KLASSIK at 20:05 on October 2, 2019. After the broadcast, the recording will be available for 30 days at www.br-musica-viva.de/sendungen.
