Leila Josefowicz joins BBC Symphony Orchestra and Susanna Mälkki to perform the UK premiere of Luca Francesconi’s Violin Concerto: Duende – The Dark Notes at the BBC Proms on 27 July. This concert also features Pierre Boulez’s Notations (numbers 1-4 and 7) and Holst’s The Planets.

Josefowicz and Mälkki performed the world premiere of the concerto in February 2014 with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Later this year they will again appear together, with the Orquesta Nacional de España, for a performance of Thomas Adès’ Violin Concerto: Concentric Paths.

Next season Josefowicz appears with the London Symphony Orchestra in October, offering the UK premiere of John Adams’ violin concerto Scheherazade.2 – Dramatic Symphony for Violin and Orchestra, conducted by the composer, while in November Mälkki conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Liadov, Prokofiev and Sibelius.
