Susanna Mälkki returns to The Metropolitan Opera to conduct Beethoven’s Fidelio on March 4, 7, 10, 12, and 15. This marks her third engagement with the company, following The Rake’s Progress and her 2016 Met debut with Kaija Saariaho’s L’amour de loin.

Jürgen Flimm’s production, last seen at The Met in 2017, reimagines Fidelio in a 20th-century setting while emphasizing its enduring themes of love, freedom, and justice — ideals that remain especially relevant today.

The distinguished cast includes Lise Davidsen as Leonore, David Butt Philip as Florestan, Tomasz Konieczny as Don Pizarro, René Pape as Rocco, Stephen Milling as Don Fernando, Ying Fang as Marzelline, and Magnus Dietrich as Jaquino.

The March 15 performance will be broadcast live to cinemas worldwide as part of The Met’s Live in HD series.
