This September, Susanna Mälkki begins her 2024/25 season by leading the Staatskapelle Berlin in a series of concerts featuring the music of Gustav Mahler and Kaija Saariaho throughout Germany and Switzerland.

The series begins at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin on September 2 and 4, where Mälkki will conduct Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, featuring mezzo-soprano Wiebke Lehmkuhl and tenor Eric Cutler, along with the German premiere of Saariaho’s HUSH, a concerto for trumpet and orchestra with Verneri Pohjola as the trumpet soloist.

Next, at the Lucerne Festival on September 8, Mälkki and the Staatskapelle Berlin will perform Mahler’s Blumine movement from his First Symphony, alongside a reprise of Das Lied von der Erde. The series will conclude with a final performance at the Kölner Philharmonie on September 9, where they will present the original Berlin program once more.
