On February 8, Susanna Mälkki takes the helm of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony (hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt) to present a captivating program featuring Paul Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler Symphony and Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1919) as part of the orchestra’s dedicated youth concert series. Building on this dynamic repertoire, the following day, on February 9, Mälkki rejoins the orchestra to showcase the same compelling works alongside Unsuk Chin’s Šu for Sheng and Orchestra featuring Sheng virtuoso Wu Wei, the muse for the composition.  Premiered in 2009 by Wei, it serves as a testament to the innovative blend of traditional Chinese and Western musical elements.

These upcoming performances promise a captivating exploration of diverse musical landscapes, combining classical masterpieces and contemporary works in a rich tapestry of orchestral expression.
