On January 30 and 31, Susanna Mälkki joins the Wiener Symphoniker to lead a compelling program featuring the esteemed pianist Andreas Haefliger. The focal point of the concert will be the Austrian premiere of Dieter Ammann’s The Piano Concerto (Gran Toccata). Ammann blends innovative musical language with intricate virtuosic elements in this concerto, offering audiences a unique glimpse into the evolution of classical forms. Complementing this contemporary piece, the program includes Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in C major, D 944, commonly known as “The Great.” Schubert’s symphony, though incomplete, stands as a monumental work in the classical music canon. Together, these works promise an engaging exploration of contrasting musical styles, providing audiences with a thought-provoking journey through the evolution of orchestral repertoire.
