On July 20, Susanna Mälkki will return to the renowned Festival d’Aix-en-Provence to lead the London Symphony Orchestra in an enthralling concert featuring compositions by George Benjamin, Paul Hindemith, Kaija Saariaho, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

To honor the late Saariaho, the concert will commence with the Finnish composer’s Lumière et Pesanteur, a poignant tribute to Esa-Pekka Salonen based on the “Eighth Station” of her work, La Passion de Simone. The program will also include Benjamin’s dynamic Concerto for Orchestra, followed by Hindemith’s Symphony Mathis der Maler, paying homage to the iconic Isenheim Altarpiece. Pianist Kirill Gerstein will showcase his virtuosity during Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 3 in a spellbinding finale.
