Susanna Mälkki begins her new year by conducting the Munich Philharmonic in two thrilling performances on January 11 and 12. The program includes Anton Webern’s Six Pieces for Orchestra, Op. 6, as well as Richard Strauss’ Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra in D major which will feature the Munich Philharmonic’s principal oboist, Andrey Godik. Following intermission, the orchestra will play Jean Sibelius’ “Lemminkäinen-Suite”, a four-movement symphonic poem based on the heroic character Lemminkäinen from the Kalevala, a collection of Finnish folklore and poetry.
