On September 7 and 8, Susanna Mälkki will lead two special performances with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra which will highlight Act II of Richard Wagner’s epic opera, Tristan und Isolde, along with a starry cast.

The program will begin with Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen, a study for twenty-three solo strings which was written near the end of WWII; it is a collection of sketches that the composer put together following the destruction of the Vienna State Opera in 1945. Post intermission, the HPO will showcase the luscious music of Richard Wagner in a special in-concert presentation of the second act of Tristan und Isolde. The outstanding artists featured will include Lise Lindstrom in her debut as Isolde, Stuart Skelton as Tristan, Jenny Carlstedt as Brangäne, Markus Nieminen as Kurwenal, Stephen Milling as King Marke and Roland Liiv as Melot.

If you can’t make these season-opening concerts in person, be sure to check out the livestream here on September 8 at 19:00 EEST.
