This July, Susanna Mälkki steps in for an indisposed Herbert Blomstedt to lead two open-air concerts in Leipzig’s Rosental Park. This marks her long-awaited debut with the orchestra as she was scheduled to join them in May 2020 but the engagement was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On July 15, Ms. Mälkki will conduct Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 37 and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88. This concert will showcase the talents of pianist Igor Levit and will be moderated by Malte Arkona.

The July 16 performance will feature Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture, Op. 17; Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 33 performed alongside the stellar cellist Andrei Ioniţă; and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88. Malte Arkona will again act as moderator.

Both of these concerts are free of charge and will begin at 20:30 CEST.
