Susanna Mälkki joins forces with violinist Leila Josefowicz for a series of concerts this December as Guest Conductor of the LA Philharmonic. On December 6, 7, & 8, Mälkki conducts one of the most revolutionary works in Western music: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 Eroica. The program also features two of the late composer and conductor Oliver Knussen’s masterly orchestrated works: his Violin Concerto interpreted by Ms. Josefowicz, and the celebratory Flourish with Friends.
On December 10, Susanna Mälkki leads the LA Phil New Music Group in a special tribute concert that commemorates her beloved colleague Oliver Knussen. Ms. Josefowicz joins Susanna in the co-curated chamber music program that surrounds three of Knussen’s compositions, alongside works by his friends, colleagues, and students, including Colin Matthews, Helen Grime, Hew Watkins, and Jonathan Harvey. This concert is part of the LA Philharmonic’s Green Umbrella series, a project founded by the orchestra and curated by Mälkki among the likes of Herbie Hancock, Andrew Norman, and John Adams.
