Susanna Mälkki recently conducted Messiaen’s epic Turangalîla Symphony with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, marking her second time this season. As Principal Guest Conductor, she also returned to conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in Messiaen’s work, receiving rave reviews by critics earlier this year.

A recording of her performance with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, featuring pianist Roger Muraro and Cynthia Millar on ondes Martenot has been released by Arte. The recording will be available until March 29, 2021.

“If there was a defining aspect to Mälkki’s performance, it was her ability to combine an immense sense of orchestral grandeur with perfectly defined metric precision. Massive forte outbursts were atmospherically balanced by instrumental subtlety and coloration.” (San Francisco Classical Voice)
