On March 20 & 21, Susanna Mälkki joins the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and soloists Yeol Eum Son, Ildikó Komlósi, and John Relyea, to conduct a program featuring works by Mozart and Bartók. The first concert on March 20 takes place at Victoria Hall, and the second on March 21 at Théâtre de Beaulieu Lausanne.

Ms. Mälkki will conduct Mozart’s Overture from Don Giovanni, and Yeol Eum Son plays Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23. Completing the program is Bartók’s one-act expressionist opera Bluebeard’s Castle with mezzo soprano Ildikó Komlósi, and bass John Relyea. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 takes a broad scope on his cheerful key of A major, and ultimately exemplifies his concerto style at its most mature and refined. Bluebeard’s Castle represented a major breakthrough in Bartók’s artistic evolution, making his largest composition to date.
