For the beginning of her third season with the Helsinki Philharmonic, Susanna Mälkki leads the HPO in a concert entitled ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ with soloist Kirill Gerstein and the Helsinki Music Centre Choir. The concert program, aimed to present the American musical styles of the early 1900s will feature a diverse program from George Gerswhin to Arnold Schönberg.
On September 7, the concert program includes Ives’ Three Places in New England, a programmatic work that evokes the patriotic character of his native home, followed by Sibelius’ picturesque Dryad and Dance Intermezzo, and concludes with Kirill Gerstein playing two contrasting works, Schönberg’s playful 12-tone Piano Concerto and Gershwin’s kaleidoscopic Rhapsody in Blue.
Part of the ensembles HKO Screen broadcasts, this concert will be broadcasted online on November 7 at 19:00. For more information click here.
