On October 4 & 5Susanna Mälkki leads the Gothenburg Symphony in a contrasting programme of passionate and pastoral works, from two giants of the repertoire. Mahler’s Blumine begins the evening, a stunning musical selection that was originally featured in the composer’s first Symphony. This piece is followed by Beethoven’s Ah, Perfido! with soprano soloist Camilla Tilling, expressing a wide range of emotions as a desperate woman scorned. The concert closes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, also with Ms. Tilling, an ethereal and beautiful work that takes the listener on an unforgettable sonic journey.
