Susanna Mälkki opens her first season as the Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic on September 9th. The orchestra, which is the oldest professional orchestra of the Nordic countries, was founded in 1882 and it has given, among others, most of the world premieres of the orchestral works by Jean Sibelius. In the opening concert will be featured works by Ligeti, Ravel, Saariaho, Lindberg and Sibelius.
