Susanna Mälkki returns to Chicago and New World Symphony Orchestras

Susanna Mälkki returns to the US to conduct the Chicago and New World Symphony orchestras over the next two weeks.

The performances at Chicago’s Symphony Center also feature Gil Shaham as the soloist in Bartók’s Violin Concerto No.2. The rest of the programme includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade Symphonic Suiteon 30 March as well as Debussy’s Gigues on 31 March, 1 and 2 April.

At the New World Center in Miami, the programme features Debussy’s Rondes de printemps, Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain with Anssi Karttunen as soloist and Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances. Performances takeplace on 9 and 10 April.

After her Chicago Symphony debut in 2011, Mälkki was described by Chicago Classical Review as “pulling off a difficult and demanding program with uncommon interpretive insight, immaculate balancing and huge panache.“ She will return again to the US at the end of the year to conduct The Metropolitan Opera for the first time.
