Susanna Mälkki makes her debut with the New York Philharmonic this week, conducting four concerts at Avery Fisher Hall. On 21, 22 and 23 May Mälkki leads the orchestra in concerts which feature Brahms’ Variations on a theme of Joseph Haydn and Piano Concerto No.1 – with Kirill Gerstein as soloist – and Jonathan Harvey’s Tranquil Abiding. She also conducts a matinee concert on 23 May with members of the orchestra and Gerstein, performing the Brahms concerto again and Dvořák’s String Quintet No.3.

These concerts conclude Mälkki’s 2014/15 US season which has seen her perform with The Philadelphia, Cleveland and San Francisco Symphony orchestras, the latter of which she conducts again next season.
