Susanna Mälkki starts 2026 in Barcelona, conducting Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, the immense dramatic-musical poem; an infinite song of love and death inspired by the medieval Celtic legend from the 12th century, compiled by Gottfried von Strassburg, which became one of the cultural references of the Middle Ages and, in Wagner’s hands, a cultural revolution.
The cast features Clay Hilley and Bryan Register as Tristan, Lise Davidsen and Elena Pankratova as Isolde, Brindley Sherratt as King Marke, Tomasz Konieczny as Kurwenal, Iréne Theorin as Brangäne and Roger Padullés as Melot. The performances take place on January 12, 15, 19, 23, 25, 27 and 31.
