Susanna Mälkki returns to Lyon to conduct the Orchestre national de Lyon in Messiaen’s opulent Turangalîla Symphony on November 15 & 16. The November 15 concert is free for students, and on November 16, the concert is part of the ensemble’s season subscription.
Additional soloists for this bold and colorful work include pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Cynthia Millar on Ondes Martenot. Both soloists performed the work under the baton of Mälkki earlier this year with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Ms. Mälkki has received critical acclaim for her previous performances conducting this massive symphony:
