Susanna Mälkki returns to the United States this month, leading performances with two of the country’s most preeminent orchestras. Ms. Mälkki reunites with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for a two-concert series at the Ravinia Festival. The first, hosted on July 20, features violinist Vadim Repin as soloist on Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, followed by a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”) by the CSO. Reserved seating and lawn tickets are available for purchase via Ravinia.org. On July 21, Sibelius and Beethoven are on the docket again, with different works highlighted for each composer. Pianist Kirill Gerstein plays Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, on a programme that also includes Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. Both concerts are hosted at the Festival’s main Pavilion.

Mälkki then travels to Ohio for a “Summers at Severance” performance with the Cleveland Orchestra on July 28. The programme, featured as “A Journey on the Rhine” includes Scriabin’s Piano Concerto, played by Bertrand Chamayou, and Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 (“Rhennish”). The evening also features pre and post-concert events; visit ClevelandOrchestra.com to secure your tickets today!
