On June 7, 8 & 9 at Davies Symphony Hall, Susanna Mälkki conducts the San Francisco Symphony with celebrated violinist Nicolaj Znaider, in a program consisting of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Saariaho’s Laterna Magica, and Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy. Mälkki has received acclaim for past performances with the San Francisco Symphony:

“Mälkki has made frequent appearances at Davies Symphony Hall, beginning in 2012, when she debuted with the orchestra conducting works by Sibelius, Prokofiev and Gérard Grisey. With each return, she has impressed Bay Area audiences with her deep musicality and consummate command of the orchestra.” (Mercury News)

“Kaija Saariaho is one of those very rare, great composers whose style is very clear from the start. But also in her music, there is always an element of magic; it’s some kind of musical mystery that we are discovering.”— Susanna Mälkki
