Susanna Mälkki leads two concert series with premiere orchestras this summer in the United States. She leads the San Francisco Symphony on June 9, 10 & 11 with pianist Garrick Ohlsson, in a programme that includes Stravinsky’s Scherzo fantastique, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1, and Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring). Her previous performances with the SFS were heralded for her “serenity and wit, lyricism and rawness, whispering delicacy and harrowing abandon” (San Francisco Classical Voice) on the podium.

On June 15, 16 & 17 Ms. Mälkki and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra are featured in one of the orchestra’s last regular season programmes, with soloist Branford Marsalis (saxophones) on Fauré’s Pavane for Soprano Saxophone and Williams’ Escapades for Alto Saxophone from “Catch Me If You Can.” Additional works on the series are Bizet’s Symphony in C, the highly anticipated world premiere of Melinda Wagner’s Proceed, Moon [CSO Commission], and Debussy’s Ibéria.
